Debut: 1998 through group "FINKL"

Lee Hyori is considered one of the ultimate sexy queen divas and legends in k-pop history. She made her debut as the leader of the group FINKL in 1998. They were one of the most loved first-generation idol groups, rivaling that of the mega-popular group S.E.S.

Hyori was by far the crowd favorite. She was spunky and had a lovable girl-next-door charm. She made her solo debut in 2003 with her first full-length album. As a solo singer, she slowly transformed from the girl-next-door to a sexy dance queen. She was unrivaled in popularity. At one point, she was the highest paid female singer in k-pop history.

Lee Hyori became a regular on the small screen as well, featured on many hit variety shows. She made another transformation through these shows, back to a more approachable "real" woman. She would be shown on camera just waking up without a drop of makeup on, something unthinkable for female stars at that time.

Lee then started to take an interest in animals, especially abandoned animals. She would volunteer often and was known for adopting many abandoned/shelter dogs and cats. She even gave up meat, becoming a vegetarian. That's how she came to get closer to Lee Sang-soon (of the band Rollercoaster), her now husband. The two bonded over their common interest in animal adoption.

Lee took quite a blow as a singer in 2010 with her album H-Logic. The song composer that composed a majority of the songs on the album was later revealed to have double-sold his songs. Meaning, he had resold the tracks to Lee Hyori despite the songs having been released by other artists from other countries in the past. Lee apologized for her lack of judgement and stayed low key for awhile.

She suddenly announced her relationship with musician Lee Sang-soon. The two wed in 2013 in an ultra private ceremony on Jeju Island. The couple moved to Jeju Island and caused a stir for living a very private and minimalistic life. Gone were the days of Lee Hyori, sexy diva with heavy makeup and flashy outfits. After getting married, Lee became a very low-key, simple person. She went on a hiatus, shying away from the small screen and the k-pop world for a few years (following her release of Monochrome in 2013). She announced her long-awaited comeback in 2017.
