Torch for Incheon Asian Games to be Ignited in New Delhi

2014-08-09

The torch for the 17th Incheon Asian Games will be ignited this year in New Delhi, India.

The torch will be lit on Saturday at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium where the games started in 1951.

For the 16 games that followed the first Asian Games in New Delhi, the torch has always been ignited in the host countries. However, this year the torch will go back to the games’ roots as a way to stress the historic meaning of the event.

After the flame is ignited in New Delhi, it will make its way to Yantai, China on Sunday through a Korean Air charter flight.

It will then travel to the port city of Weihai, China and make its journey toward Incheon after August 12 on the New Golden Bridge II, a ferry that travels between China and Korea.

The torch will later visit 70 regions in Korea for a month from August 14 and later be used to ignite the flame at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium on September 19 to mark the opening of the games.
