President Moon Jae-in has reaffirmed his campaign pledge to seek a constitutional revision through a referendum during local elections next year.

Presidential spokesman Park Soo-hyun says Moon held a luncheon meeting with National Assembly floor leaders Friday and called for changing the current single-term, five-year presidency into a four-year term with the possibility of reelection limited to two terms, starting from the year 2022.

The president said public opinions should be sufficiently reflected during the political discourse about the amendment, and that revising the election system should also be discussed.

Separately, Moon said he will assume a cautious approach on the deployment of the THAAD missile defense in consideration of upcoming summits with the United States and China.
