The European Union will hold a special session on Monday to discuss its possible responses to the escalating tensions with North Korea.

The European External Action Service said in a statement on Friday that EU Foreign Policy chief Federica Mogherini will chair the meeting of the Political and Security Committee slated for Monday, to discuss a variety of issues over the North.

The statement said that Mogherini, after meeting her international counterparts on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum in the Philippines, has decided to call the extraordinary meeting to produce the bloc’s possible next steps on the situation in North Korea.

It is very unusual for the European Union to hold a special session to discuss North Korean issues.
