Highway toll fees will be exempt for three days of the Chuseok thanksgiving holiday in early October.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that a revision to the Toll Road Act was passed during a Cabinet meeting Tuesday, which calls for exempting toll fees on special days such as traditional holidays.

The exemption will apply for October third to the fifth, the day of Chuseok and the days before and after, for all cars using expressways.

The exemption will also apply to vehicles entering an expressway on October second and exiting on the third, or those entering on the fifth and exiting on the sixth.

However, drivers still need to get a toll road ticket from the machine and hand it in at the tollbooth, a measure intended to prevent speeding.

The ministry said it also plans to lift toll fees during the PyeongChang Winter Olympics next year.
