The Fair Trade Commission said Tuesday the government will expand the number of media platforms it uses to inform citizens of product recalls.

Under a new set of government guidelines, authorities will reach out to let people know about recalls of potentially dangerous consumer items over text messages, television commercials and social media.

The commission says the expanded outreach will help consumers understand the recall measures better and respond to them more swiftly.

In addition, a risk grading system limited to four items including foods and medicine at present will be expanded to automotive products, the livestock industry, cosmetics, household chemicals and other sectors.
