China is urging restraint following Tuesday night's flight by U.S. long-range strategic bombers over the Korean Peninsula in response to North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats.

China’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters Wednesday the situation on the Korean Peninsula is highly complicated and sensitive.

The two B1-B U.S. bombers were escorted by two South Korean F-15K fighters Tuesday in a joint exercise simulating air-to-ground missile firing.

The U.S. military said Japanese fighter jets also joined the drill.
