The Bareun Party’s acting chief and floor leader Joo Ho-young has tendered his resignation from the party.

His defection on Monday came a week after he and eight other lawmakers revealed they were leaving the splinter conservative party.

The eight left the party last Wednesday and joined the largest opposition Liberty Korea Party(LKP) the next day, but Joo had delayed his departure until after the party’s primary. Joo plans to join the LKP on Tuesday.

The Bareun Party held its primary on Monday morning, electing its former presidential candidate Yoo Seong-min as its new chairman.
