The prosecution has summoned a lawmaker from the major opposition party over an allegation that he received illegal political funds from those seeking the party’s nomination ahead of the local and general elections.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office said Thursday it summoned Representative Lee Woo-hyun of the Liberty Korea Party(LKP) to face questioning as a suspect next Monday.
Earlier in the day, prosecutors and inspectors raided his residence and office to confiscate related financial documents, including his bank passbooks.
Lee is suspected of having received a large sum of money from people who were seeking the LKP's nomination ahead of the local elections in June 2014 and the general elections in April last year.
