With a cold snap already gripping the nation, the mercury is expected to plunge even further on Thursday.
The Korea Meteorological Administration on Wednesday morning issued a cold wave advisory for the northern parts of Gyeonggi Province and the region west of the Taebaek Mountains in Gangwon Province.
The weather agency forecast that the temperature will further drop on Thursday, with morning lows expected to stand at around minus ten degrees Celsius in Seoul and its surrounding areas.
The weather agency said a special cold wave advisory is expected to be expanded and afternoon highs are likely to remain below zero on Thursday.
In particular, the agency projected that South Chungcheong Province and the Jeolla Provinces will see snowfall of between five and 15 centimeters through Friday morning.
Snow of up to 20 centimeters is expected to fall on the west coasts of North and South Jeolla Province while up to 50 centimeters of snow is expected for the mountainous regions of Jeju through Friday.
