A special cold wave advisory has been issued for most parts of the country on Thursday as freezing temperatures have gripped the nation.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said a cold wave warning is in place for inland areas of the central region and North Gyeongsang Province, adding that the wind chill will make conditions feel even colder.

Morning lows stood at around minus 12 degrees Celsius for Seoul and minus 20 for Chuncheon.

Afternoon highs are expected to stand at minus seven degrees in Seoul, minus five in Daejeon, minus two in Gwangju and minus three in Daegu. That’s around two to five degrees lower than Wednesday.

The weather agency urged citizens to take care of their health and be mindful of water pipes that could freeze and burst.

The agency also forecast Ulleung Island, Dokdo and Jeju’s mountainous regions will see additional snowfall of ten to 30 centimeters through Friday morning. Three to ten centimeters more snow is expected for the western coasts of South Chungcheong Province and the Jeolla Provinces.
