The top officers of the Chungbuk Fire Service Headquarters face stern penalties with regard to their handling of the fire that occurred at a commercial building in Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province on December 21st.
A joint probe team announced on Thursday that the commanding officers who handled the incident were careless in assessing the situation and giving orders.
The probe team also stressed that the ranking officers failed to immediately respond to emergency calls.
With such findings, the National Fire Agency dismissed the head of the Chungbuk Fire Service Headquarters.
The probe team also requested the agency to take disciplinary actions against three other ranking officers.
A total of 29 people died from the fire that engulfed the eight-story building which housed a fitness club, sauna and restaurants.
