A North Korean propaganda apparatus has called for the complete suspension of joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States.
The state-run Web site Uriminjokkkiri made the claim Friday while reporting on the U.S.' announcement that the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle war games would be postponed to April to avoid overlapping with the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games.
The site argued that in order for North-South relations to improve, the complete suspension of military exercises is necessary, adding that seeking dialogue while practicing for war are incompatible acts. It also criticized the joint military exercises, calling them a scourge that destroys peace and only brings misfortune and trouble to the Korean people.
It is the first response from Pyongyang to the Seoul-Washington alliance's decision to delay the large-scale annual exercises.
During forthcoming inter-Korean military talks, the North is expected to strongly demand the South completely suspend all joint military exercises with the U.S.
