The presidential office’s special task force created in the wake of a recent spate of deadly blazes has discussed pan-government measures to enhance public safety against fires.

The meeting held at the top office on Tuesday was presided over by President Moon’s chief policy adviser, Jang Ha-sung, who is the head of the task force.

Jang urged the task force members to devote themselves to their mission, stressing they should ensure fundamental changes to related laws and institutions, secure budgets regarding the government’s fire-safety policies and oversee their execution.

Noting the task force will remain in place for the long haul to bring about long-term benefits, instead of stopgap measures, Jang urged the task force to oversee the renovation of interior materials and firefighting facilities as well as equipment to reduce fire-related accidents.
