Trade, Industry and Energy Minister Paik Un-gyu has stressed the need for all-out national efforts to be made to secure orders to build nuclear power plants from Saudi Arabia.

The trade ministry said Paik made the remark on Wednesday during a meeting that reviewed economic cooperation projects with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates(UAE).

Paik is set to make a two-day trip to the UAE from February 24th and also visit Saudi Arabia soon.

Paik revealed during Wednesday’s meeting that the main focus of his upcoming trip to Saudi Arabia will be to increase South Korea's chances of winning orders to build commercial nuclear power plants. During his UAE trip, Paik said he will aim to promote strategic partnership.

Saudi Arabia is planning to build nuclear power plants and will reveal a short list between March and April of bidders competing to build two nuclear reactors. It will make its final selection at the end of the year.
