Prosecutor General Moon Moo-il has rejected allegations that he exerted undue pressure on investigators looking into a hiring scandal linked to an opposition lawmaker.

Regarding the allegations, Moon told reporters on Wednesday that he was performing legitimate acts of duty as the prosecutor general, adding he believes it's the top prosecutor's duty to manage and supervise to ensure the proper exercise of the prosecution's authority.

An investigation team at the prosecution looking into unlawful employment practices at Kangwon Land casino claimed in a statement on Tuesday that Moon blocked its attempt to arrest Rep. Kwon Seong-dong and indict a senior prosecutor.

The team said that Moon had pledged not to intervene in the investigation in the beginning, but exerted undue pressure and blocked the probe by ordering the creation of an advisers' panel at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office.
