South Korea's ruling Democratic Party(DP) is shifting into high gear ahead of local elections set for mid-June.
The DP on Wednesday held a launching ceremony for its central election committee and conferred an official certificate of nomination to its candidates who will run in the June 13th elections.
The party's chairwoman Choo Mi-ae is spearheading the central election committee together with seven-term lawmaker Lee Hae-chan.
Speaking at the ceremony, Choo stressed the need to build momentum, saying even conservatives are turning their backs on the largest opposition Liberty Korea Party.
She then called on party members to achieve a landslide victory in the elections so they can achieve peace on the Korean Peninsula and revive the domestic economy.
