The U.S. Forces Korea(USFK) dismissed reports that Gen. Robert Abrams has been tapped to become the new chief of the USFK.
In a press release Thursday, the USFK said any reports about the next commander are purely speculative and no official announcement or nomination has been made.
It added that Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, the current chief of the USFK, continues to serve with pride and distinction focused on the strength of the South Korea-U.S. alliance and stability and peace in the region.
Earlier in the day Yonhap news quoted a security source as saying Abrams was likely to replace the commander of the USFK and take up the new post around August.
