Parliamentary speakers of South Korea and Indonesia have discussed measures to strengthen relations between the two countries.
National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang sat down with Oesman Sapta Odang, the speaker of the Regional Representative Council, in Jakarta on Friday. Moon is visiting the Southeast Asian nation to attend a parliamentary leaders’ meeting of MIKTA, an informal partnership between Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia.
Moon said South Korea and Indonesia have been developing close cooperation since they signed diplomatic ties 45 years ago, noting that South Korea’s investment in Indonesia grew by 80 percent last year and their trade increased by 20 percent.
He then called for the Indonesian parliament’s interest and support so more South Korean companies will invest in the country.
The South Korean parliamentary leader also expressed hopes the two countries’ cooperation in the defense industry, including a partnership on fighter jets, will continue smoothly.
Mentioning next week’s inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang, he also called on Indonesia to continue supporting the development of inter-Korean relations.
