President Moon Jae-in plans to request the National Assembly to adopt a confirmation hearing report on venture minister nominee Hong Jong-haak by Monday.
A top office official told Yonhap News on Wednesday that the president will ask parliament to adopt a report within six days.
Moon, who is on a tour of three Southeast Asian nations, is expected to sign off on the request as early as Wednesday before he departs for Seoul from Manila.
If rival parties fail to adopt a report, the president can exercise his authority to push ahead with the appointment. However, such a move would draw strong backlash from the opposition and could lead to a deadlock in the political sector.
