Former President Park Geun-hye’s longtime confidante Choi Soon-sil has challenged the Seoul Central District Court's ruling that found her guilty of massive corruption and influence peddling.

According to the court, Choi’s legal representatives filed an appeal on Wednesday, a day after she was convicted of most of the 18 charges against her, including bribery, abuse of power and coercion, and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Lee Kyung-jae, a lawyer on Choi’s defense team, argued that during her trial, legal principles were misunderstood, facts were improperly established, and her sentence was also too severe.

Park’s former senior presidential secretary, An Chong-bum, who received a six-year prison sentence, also challenged the court, as did Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin, who is appealing his two-and-a-half-year sentence.
