Former President Lee Myung-bak is expected to give an opening statement at his corruption trial that starts next Wednesday.

After concluding preparatory procedures for the trial, his defense team said Thursday that Lee will speak for about ten minutes during the opening remarks.

The lawyers said the ex-leader will decide what to say himself, and that he appears to be undecided over whether to make political remarks.

The defense team said Lee still denies all the charges filed by the prosecution, which include bribery and embezzlement.

Earlier Thursday, the Seoul Central District Court finalized the date and time for the first hearing at 2 p.m on May 23rd.
