Seoul has sent a special envoy to Tripoli to resolve a hostage situation involving a South Korean national in Libya.

According to Seoul’s Foreign Ministry, former South Korean Ambassador to Kazakhstan Baik Joo-hyeon departed from Incheon International Airport on Friday afternoon for the North African country.

The special envoy will request more cooperation from the Libyan government to win the release of the South Korean and discuss joint measures with local officials to resolve the issue. Baik plans to stay in Libya for two or three days but may extend his trip if needed.

A South Korean man and three Filipinos were working at water project site in Libya when they were kidnapped by an unidentified militia group on July sixth.
