Baekje, one of the three ancient kingdoms on the Korean Peninsula, existed for 700 years from 18 B.C. to 660 A.D. Eight historical sites representing the Baekje Kingdom made it to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015. The eight sites include Gongsanseong Fortress, the group royal tombs in Songsan-ri in Gongju, the Gwanbuk-ri ruins, Busosanseong Fortress, the Jeongnimsa Temple site in Buyeo, the Mireuksa Temple site and the royal palace at Wanggung-ri in Iksan. The sites all have immense values as world heritages since they represent a high level of culture and also show active exchanges among ancient kingdoms in Northeast Asia.
